The town of Tambor Bay is located at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, a wild and undeveloped part of Costa Rica. Despite the remote location, there are a number of travel options available to make your trip to Tambor Bay simple and convenient.

Although you can drive directly to Tambor from San Jose by taking the long way around, the fastest option is to take the ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera across the Gulf of Nicoya, or take a direct flight from San Jose to Tambor. The primary airport for the area is conveniently located in Tambor Bay! Imagine taking a fast and adventurous 20 minute flight where we will be waiting to pick you up for a 5 minute drive to your accommodations. Domestic flights leave right from the airport in San Jose and are very reasonably priced. Two airlines, Nature Air and Sansa Airlines provide this service. Aside from a direct flight from San Jose, the quickest way to Tambor Bay is by taking the ferry service from Puntarenas to Paquera. This ferry crosses the calm waters of the beautiful Golf of Nicoya and is a great way to see the coastline. The ferry passes by an active brown booby, brown pelican and magnificent frigatebird colony and is a good way to view pelagic bird species. The crossing takes approximately one and a half hours and the price per person is $1.50 and approx. $23 for a standard vehicle. If you don’t have a vehicle you can arrange a shuttle service like Costa Rica Shuttle.
